A. Tobacco Questions for Surveys (TQS)
- What is TQS?
Tobacco Questions for Surveys (TQS) is a component of the Global Tobacco Surveillance System (GTSS), which was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other partners to assist countries in establishing tobacco control surveillance and monitoring programmes.
- What is the TQS Integration Project?
The integration of TQS into the framework of on-going surveys in OIC Member States will serve as a mechanism to harmonize and standardize the monitoring of key tobacco control indicators regularly and promote sustainability and integration with other risk factors surveillance initiatives.
Up to now, 15 OIC member countries, namely Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Gabon, Gambia, Indonesia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tajikistan and Togo have affirmed their commitment to integrate TQS into their ongoing national surveys and ensured the regular implementation and collection of the TQS data. 13 of them (Azerbaijan, Cote d’Ivoire, Chad, Egypt, Gambia, Indonesia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tajikistan and Togo) have fully completed the project.
- What is the objective?
The main aim of the project is to technically support the OIC countries in their efforts to integrate the TQS into the ongoing national surveys.

B. Tobacco Questions for Surveys of Youth (TQS-Youth)
- What is TQS-Youth?
Tobacco Questions for Surveys of Youth (TQS-Youth) was developed with a view to maintain consistency and comparability in monitoring tobacco use among youth globally and keep-up with the ever-changing tobacco control landscape. The subset of key questions from the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) is meant to improve comparability of youth tobacco data over time by harmonizing youth tobacco surveillance activities across various on-going surveys. TQS-Youth was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other partners following the success of implementation of the Tobacco Questions for Surveys (TQS), the subset of key questions from the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS).
- What is the TQS-Youth Integration Project?
TQS-Youth integration in the framework of on-going youth surveys in OIC member countries will serve as a mechanism to improve survey comparability over time and harmonize them with international tobacco surveillance and monitoring activities.
